Our History

Edward Pfitzenmaier established the Suburban Typewriter Company in 1926. He began by selling and servicing typewriters and adding machines. Customer service was his strong point. He believed that the most important quality that a company could have is a strong commitment to customer satisfaction. That commitment lives on today.

In 1950 he purchased a building on Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore (PA) and expanded the business to include the sale of stationery items. The store was run by his wife, his daughters and other employees. Edward concentrated on service and repair of all types of office equipment. The store was known as Suburban Office Equipment. Later, the company passed to Edward's daughter Peggy, the name changed to Suburban Inc, and the company was run by Peggy and her sons.

Steve Mahan, Peggy's son and Edward's grandson, has worked in the business for over 40 years and now runs the show. And - just as Edward would have wanted it - we still believe that striving for excellence in customer satisfaction is what matters most.

1Do you offer emergency service calls?

If your shredder, disintegrator, or grinder is mission-critical, we strongly suggest that you contact us about our maintenance contracts. With a Suburban Inc maintenance contract, you have access to our service technicians whenever you need us but more importantly, we work to make sure that your equipment is well-serviced and reliable so that emergency calls will be far and few between!! If you need emergency service, please call us and we'll be in touch as quickly as possible.

2What brands of equipment do you service?

We service in-warranty and out-of-warranty equipment by Fellowes, SEM, Kobra, Dahle, GBC, HSM, Destroyit, Cumberland, Weima, MBM, Intimus, Martin Yale, Ideal, Swingline, Olympia, Geha, Royal, Rexel, and Formax. If your manufacturer isn't listed here, please call us and we'll let you know if we can help!

3How do your maintenance contracts work?

Our maintenance contracts are available with Labor & Parts, Labor & NO Parts, and Scheduled Preventative Maintenance visits with or without parts. Our contracts are available on shredders purchased from Suburban or elsewhere. The cost of the contract is determined by the number of PM's per year and whether or not parts are included.

4Do you repair typewriters?

Yes we do! Although typewriter repair isn't exactly a growth industry, someone's got to do it and we've been doing it for over 50 years! Call Suburban Inc and we'll keep your typewriters running like new for as long as you need them.

5Where do you offer service?
